Where Does This Program Fit in the Georgia DUI Process?

A DUI charge in Georgia involves two parallel tracks: the criminal court process and the Georgia DDS license reinstatement process. Attending our in-person program satisfies both the court’s requirement and the DDS reinstatement requirement simultaneously.

StageWhat HappensCriminal CourtGeorgia DDS / License
1DUI Arrest or ChargeYou are charged with DUI, BUI, or a drug/alcohol driving offense.Your Georgia driver's license may be suspended immediately or at conviction.
2Court AppearanceIf convicted, the court typically requires completion of the DUI Risk Reduction Program as part of sentencing.Georgia DDS is notified of the conviction. License suspension takes effect.
3NEEDS AssessmentNot directly related to criminal proceedings.Required by Georgia DDS before the 20-hour class can begin. Completed online before first class day.
420-Hour DUI/Risk Reduction ProgramSatisfies the court’s requirement. Certificate submitted to court as proof of completion.Required for DDS license reinstatement. Attending in-person at a licensed location satisfies this requirement.
5Certificate of CompletionSubmit to the court and/or probation officer.Submit to Georgia DDS as part of the formal license reinstatement application.
6License ReinstatementCourt case may be closed or resolved based on compliance.Georgia DDS reviews your submission. If all requirements are met, your license is reinstated.

Note: First-time vs. repeat offenses.

For a first-time DUI, the Risk Reduction Program is typically the required course. For repeat offenses, or cases involving reckless driving, drug possession, or a judge’s specific order, a Clinical Evaluation or Victim Impact Panel may also be required.

This table reflects the general DUI process in Georgia. Your specific case may differ. Consult your attorney for case-specific advice.
